It was possibly the single most inspirational experience of my life, opening my eyes to new and exciting things and ways. The main 'yay' for me was getting to meet some incredible women who have helped put me back on track with my goals and interests. Now I won't go into details of the bad stuff in my personal life which have occurred in the past couple of weeks, but it did leave me feeling shitty and confused. Mix this with the limbo time of waiting for exam results to find out about Unis and you're left with a very lost 18 year old girl who just wants to sleep all day.
Last year I only got to go to the festival for one day (dam having to work saturdays) and it was amazing, I knew that I had to go for the full weekend in 2011. So I did.
Rather than doing a ma-hoo-sive post about it all (I could go on and on and on), I'll pop some pictures up and do a summary of my top bits!
The lake was a beaut...never braved the cold-looking water in my 50s swimsuit though
Bella and Chelsea in the main bit of the site
Me at the entrance to the wardrobe department, Chels took it just before I smiled so I just look like a stroppy bitch in a mac that's about 3 sizes too big
Oh gee wow the view from the tent....
One of my favourite bits, the Poetry Takeaway. 4 guys in a little van take your ideas for a poem and write one for you (for free!!!). Mine was about what ice cream men do in winter...I still don't know the answer to that question.
The stage on which I embarrassed myself in front of one of my favourite childhood authors, Georgia Byng. The quilt backdrop was made by Jazz Domino.
Amazingly inspiration talk from Caitlin Moran, and she signed my book! One of my favourite people. Ever.
One minute disco - truly hilarious and fun
Now for the best bits:
- Luella Bartley/Anna Sui/Barbara Hulanicki being in the same tent as me. (Awkward conversation with Anna Sui, she's really not much of a talker)
- Frank Turner (he's a lovely chap)
- Rubbish magazine and the finger puppets (I bought a Karl Lagerfeld one)
- Lucy Siegel's talk on her book "To die for"
- Caitlin Moran
- Kate Winslet's reading of Mr.Gum (yes, Kate Winslet)
- Feminist talks with the Pamflet girls
- Talking to Jazz Domino
- Getting free books
But now I'm torn. On the one hand I cannot recommend this festival enough, but on the other I don't want a million people to discover it's greatest then I miss out on a ticket for 2012. It's just that bloody brilliant.
