Identity theory

Yes, yes, we all know by now that I'm sort of growing up a bit and moving away from home (it's my main topic of conversation at the moment), but it's really made me think about being a teenager and the things that are important to us. Frankly, I'm slightly sickened at the thought of turning 19 in November, it means I only have 1 year left of being a teenager. This, in turn, means that I only have one year of using "I'm a teenager" as being an excuse, e.g. sleeping late, "I'm a teenager", eating lots "I'm a teenager", being lazy "I'm a teenager", stropping and blowing things totally out of proportion (Muuu-uuummm, I can't believe you got ribena light, I said ribena!) "I'm a teenager". I don't think there's an excuse like that for a 20 year old? Maybe I can play the student card?

But anyway, a key part of teenage-dom is the bedroom. Oh what these four walls have seen! What gossip they've heard! I absolutely love going into people's bedrooms, it really tells you something about them. Bella has a brilliant bedroom (when you can actually make your away across the clothes and magazines all over the floor), as soon as you enter you know she has an insanely creative mind. Lauren's bedroom shows how she's a neat freak literary/comic/gadget obsessive. I'm so happy there's a whole blog that lets you peek into other people's teenage bedrooms, it assisted heavily in A level procrastination.

Teenage rooms develop and grow with the teen to whom it belongs. From the early days of boyband posters, the decorations change and whilst they essentially mature, at the end, aged 19, there's still part of your 13 year old self lurking in your room.

I love how everyone has little bits and pieces from events in their lives that they just can't get rid of. For example, I have an empty Curiosity Cola bottle from when me and my old theatre group did the Edinburgh fringe festival. I also have a tardis air freshener from my first car and worry dolls from the local Museum before the shut it down for re-vamp. The whole composition of a teenage bedroom is awesome, they're so messy and personal. Where ever I live in the future, I hope it has the same sort of erratic and creative tone as my teenage bedroom, I could never live in a show home house.
